After analyzing thousands of SaaS landing pages, the difference between pages that convert at 1–2% and pages that convert at 4–8% comes down to a predictable set of elements. Here's the complete checklist.

20/27
average score
Pages that hit 20+ of these 27 points convert at 4%+ on average. Most early-stage startup pages hit 10–12. The gap between those numbers is the gap in your conversion rate.

Above the Fold (Critical)

  • ☐ Headline communicates a specific outcome (not a feature or category)
  • ☐ Subheadline identifies the target customer and reinforces the headline
  • ☐ One primary CTA button with specific, benefit-focused copy
  • ☐ At least one trust signal visible (user count, customer logos, or testimonial)
  • ☐ No navigation menu distracting from the CTA (or a minimal nav)
  • ☐ Page loads in under 3 seconds on mobile
🎯 Above-the-fold is your entire pitch
Most visitors never scroll. Everything above the fold needs to answer: what is it, who is it for, why should I trust you, and what should I do next. If any of these are missing from your first screenful, you're leaking conversions.

Value Proposition

  • ☐ Clear answer to "What do I get, specifically?"
  • ☐ Value prop passes the specificity test (competitors can't copy it exactly)
  • ☐ Outcome-focused language (what changes, not what the product is)
  • ☐ Visible in the first 500 pixels without scrolling

Social Proof

  • ☐ At least 3 testimonials with full name, company, and job title
  • ☐ Customer count or usage number (if you have it)
  • ☐ Customer logos section (even 3 logos help)
  • ☐ At least one case study with a specific result ("X company increased Y by Z%")

Features and Benefits

  • ☐ Features presented as benefits ("Automatic reporting" → "See your results without building a single dashboard")
  • ☐ No more than 3–5 primary features highlighted (more creates choice paralysis)
  • ☐ Screenshots or product UI showing the actual experience
  • ☐ Demo video or GIF if the product UI is complex
❌ Weak
"Automatic reporting" — A feature. Describes what the product does.
✅ Strong
"See your results without building a single dashboard" — A benefit. Describes what changes for the user.

Trust Signals

  • ☐ Money-back guarantee or risk reversal statement
  • ☐ Privacy statement near the CTA ("We never sell your data")
  • ☐ Security credentials or certifications if applicable
  • ☐ "Cancel anytime" or similar low-commitment language near pricing

Objection Handling

  • ☐ FAQ section addressing the top 3 objections
  • ☐ Pricing section with clear value at each tier
  • ☐ Comparison to alternatives (why you vs. the obvious competitor)

Technical

  • ☐ Page is fully responsive on mobile
  • ☐ All CTA buttons are tappable on mobile (≥44px)
  • ☐ Core Web Vitals pass (Google Search Console)
  • ☐ Meta title and description optimized for primary search term

How to use this checklist

Go through every point for your current landing page. Items you can't check are opportunities. Prioritize items in the "Above the Fold" and "Value Proposition" sections — they have the most leverage.

For a faster version of this audit, use StartupRoastAI. The AI evaluates your page across 6 dimensions (headline, value proposition, CTA, trust signals, UX, and conversion) and gives you 15+ specific fixes in 30 seconds. It won't replace a manual audit — but it'll catch the big issues instantly.

What score should you aim for?

If you complete 80% or more of this checklist, you're likely in the top 10% of landing pages in your category. Most pages that convert at 4%+ hit at least 20 of these 27 points. Most pages that convert at 1–2% hit fewer than 12.

The checklist doesn't guarantee conversions — your offer, traffic quality, and price point matter too. But it removes the conversion blockers that most pages leave unaddressed.
